The Advanced Journalism Academy stands for independent, critical journalism with a focus on solving urgent societal problems. Crucial themes include the environment, cultural diversity, and peace. We recently coined the term "constructive journalism" to describe our chosen facet of media work. That positive outlook was what initially inspired the earlier projects Nature Counts, Peace Counts, and Culture Counts. AJA continues the development of those projects and - more importantly - communicates them to journalists living in conflict regions.

AJA's unique selling proposition is its three-phase program, with support for training, production, and distribution. The first phase includes professional development for colleagues in conflict regions with workshops on the themes of quality journalism, civil society, and the roots of conflict. In the second phase, we initiate cross-media production for the most promising features. In the third phase, media products are placed in local, regional, national, and international media. The first venue for the new three-phase program was Ivory Coast, where a program combining radio, print, and live appearances drew praise from outlets including Der Spiegel.
